Dear friends and readers,
I’m here to announce the end of this blog.
I’m fighting the impulse to write that this is “with a heavy heart” or that it was a “difficult decision”. These are the go-to phrases we tend to use when announcing major changes.
Honestly, it was neither of these things.
I decided to end this blog for a few reasons.
- With the rapid expansion of AI, I no longer feel comfortable posting public content. Though I’ll always have things I want to share, I’ll no longer do so on platforms being scraped by AI tools (which is most places these days, sadly).
- The lack of engagement on here was demotivating. Let’s be honest, we all care about who looks at and “likes” or interacts with our online activity – it’s human nature to seek validation. I think we’re all too hardwired to expect to receive content on our platform(s) of choice (Instagram, BlueSky, etc.) and aren’t keen on links that take us elsewhere.
- I find myself too exhausted and stressed these days to write posts. This applies to all of my social media accounts. I’ve also been bad at replying to DMs. I’m sorry to anyone who has felt personally impacted by this. I’m fighting my own battles over here.
I just archived all of my old posts. For anyone who comes across this blog later, there wasn’t anything super secret or exciting on them.
So, where do I go now? How do we stay in touch? The same way we always have, which varies depending on my relationship with you. Discord, WhatsApp, and Instagram (unfortunately) are my current go-tos. I’m open to trying other social media or microblogging platforms (though not BlueSky, at least, not while it only allows public posts) if you have one to recommend.
So long friends, and thanks for all the fish. See you around other corners of the internet.
Oh, before I go: here’s one last pic of Cake, saying goodnight to this blog.
